# Multichain

Pirate Nation is a fully onchain game, meaning that all of the game logic and history are recorded on a blockchain. However, any given blockchain has a hard limit to how much throughput it can process, both in terms of data and transaction volume.

In order for the game to one day scale to millions of players, Pirate Nation initially migrated to the Apex chain in February 2024, a custom-built blockchain designed to scale processing for an onchain game. Following that, Pirate Nation incorporated a second blockchain dubbed Boss, making it the world's first-ever multichain game in August 2024.
