Pirate Nation is a fully onchain game, meaning that all of the game logic and history are recorded on a blockchain. However, any given blockchain has a hard limit to how much throughput it can process, both in terms of data and transaction volume.

In order for the game to one day scale to millions of players, Pirate Nation initially migrated to the Apex chain in February 2024, a custom-built blockchain designed to scale processing for an onchain game. Following that, Pirate Nation will incorporate a second blockchain dubbed Boss, making it the world's first-ever multichain game.

Until 6pm ET / 10pm UTC, Pirate Nation players are incentivized to sign up for playing on the Boss chain, using this form, to win 100,000 BOOTY Points and be entered to win 1 of 3 Shipwrights and 1 of 400 Boss-themed ship skins for the four ship types.
