Boss FAQs
What is the Boss chain? What is multichain?
Pirate Nation is a fully onchain game, meaning all of the game’s logic and data run on blockchains. Given the volume of data getting processed onchain, the game has far exceeded the capacity of any one blockchain, including Proof of Play Apex, leading us to build a solution for one game to operate across multiple chains (multichain). Boss is the second blockchain from Proof of Play and the first step in launching and using multichain for Pirate Nation.
I signed up for Boss. Do I need to do anything else?
After we launch Boss and complete our backend processes, you will only need to sign in to Pirate Nation as you normally do to resume playing. You won’t need to do anything separate or special if you’re on the Boss chain.
Can I still transition to Boss?
Currently, there is no plan to allow more players to transition to Boss.
How will Boss differ from Apex?
Beyond the players on each chain, there will be no difference in gameplay experience between players on Apex or on Boss. There are some limitations with the first version of the multichain: Shipwrights and Islands will not be immediately available for players on different chains. Only players on Apex will be able to visit each other’s Islands and use each other’s Shipwrights and the same is true for Boss, but this will not be the case forever.
Is there a block explorer?
Yes: https://explorer-proofofplay-boss-mainnet.t.conduit.xyz. We don’t have plans to backfill Apex data for Boss.
Do I need to bridge ETH from Apex to Boss?
No, you’ll be able to transact with ETH on either Proof of Play blockchain and purchase items from players on either chain.
Can I bridge ETH to Boss?
Yes, you will be able to bridge to the Proof of Play Boss chain using Relay. We’re working on enabling more options, including Orbiter.
How will the Proof of Play Marketplace work with the different chains?
The marketplace is configured to provide a unified experience for players, regardless of the chain they’re playing on.
Will there be more blockchains? Will we need to bridge to new chains?
In order to grow the game and scale to millions of players, we’ll launch new chains as needed to provide for that growth. However, we’ll most likely not open any new windows for moving chains; we’ll simply activate the new chain for new signups.
Will the Apex and Boss have different Gauntlets or shared maps for Exploration?
No, they will all be the same. We will not differentiate the game experience by chain.
Can the Boss chain handle the same player count as Apex?
Apex and Boss are essentially twins, built with the same functionality and scale. They will be able to handle similar amounts of users and will continue to get upgraded to handle more per chain as we go.
How will the distribution of players work with the multiple chains?
Players will not switch back and forth between blockchains and new players will either go to the Boss chain or the C-named chain that will launch next. Apex players will stay on Apex, while Boss players will stay on Boss, carrying forward with all new Proof of Play chains launching in the future.
Will new chains be easier to launch?
Yes! Using lessons learned and infrastructure built for Boss and the first version of multichain, we’ll be able to more easily and rapidly iterate multichain and set up new blockchains to expand the player base.
If I have made offers/listings on the Apex right now, will they remain when my account is moved to Boss?
Players who move to Boss will need to redo their listings and offers.
